Wisdom teeth growing and causing swollen gums and pain?

I am 17 and my wisdom teeth grew 2 days ago in the bottom left hand corner of my mouth. The gums around the teeth swelled so badly and while the outside of the gum stays intact, the inner side(my tongue area) is totally swollen, making it hurt whenever I swallow. I cannot eat anything without feeling like a few billion joules of pain coursing through my mouth even when I use my right side of the mouth. After some pressing and investigation on the gum, I felt as though my tooth is facing about 60-70 degrees upward towards my next tooth at the end. My mom refuses to let me visit a dental clinic and said that it is normal for wisdom teeth to be like this and will grow vertically once it hits the teeth while growing and told me to endure the pain and wait it out. I want to know whether is this scientifically true and that I would not require a trip to the dentist and wait it out or I should do something about it. I have been eating painkillers to stop the throbbing pain but I am slowly getting immune and feeling the pain even after eating painkillers. Please help
