How to stop horrible coughing attacks from a cold, need advice ASAP?

I recently have come down with a cold and I cannot stop coughing. I have these horrible cough attacks where I get the biggest tickle in the back of my throat and it keeps dripping. I am left coughing for like 5 minutes at a time and I have to cough really hard and my eyes tear up because these coughing attacks are severe. I have to be in to work tomorrow and the day after tomorrow because of the holiday season. I walk around and talk with a lot of people. I work at a retail store so it is going to be super busy and I do not want to be hacking away when a customer is asking me something. How can I prevent these attacks? because I have already had like 4 of them today
