Car grinds but won't start/turnover...?

So i started the car this morning and it was running like normal, now it is a little cold out so i suspect that it could be a culprit. However about 2 houses down my car made a grinding noise so i pulled over and the engine stopped running completely. Now when I go to try and restart it it just grinds hard for a few seconds and nothing. It wont turn over at all. I did notice the antifreeze and oil were a little low so i topped it up and it still makes this noise and wont start. Any suggestions??
