Can car that had a mech. lien on it, have a DMV stop put on it after lien sale ?

I'm in California and put a mech. lien on a car. After lien sale passed and it wasn't bought, I went to the business that I had do the lien paperwork. I was told that a transfer hold was put on the car , but that they had never recieved any paperwork. What do I do next ?
