Motorcycle problem with idling and going up into 2nd gear.?

The bike can idle but revs far too much, if I lower adjust the revs via the screw at the side of the bike (I'm not very technical) to the right level of revs the bike just struggles and cuts off the engine. Can ride in 1st gear, but as soon as I put it into 2nd the bike revs strongly but provides me with no extra power, in fact, it provides less power, often cutting out. And once in 2nd I can't stop the revs without going to 1st gear of hitting the kill switch, even if I roll off the throttle. The bike is a CPI SUV 125cc if that's helpful. It's a125cc, I'm not accidentally knocking the gears into neutral instead of 2nd, it's got fuel in it. Might it be the injector? What would explain the loud revs but less power
