Greetings Im an engineer and we have a set of diesel gensets (about 1 MW each). They sat for a while (6 months) without maintenance due to some ownership transfer but when our maintenance guys tried to crank them back up, they would not. Soon after they found urea had crystallized in the portions of the exhaust system and blocked the air flow. Also, urea and fuel were leaking out of the pistons. It appears as though a solenoid valve failed and the urea injection system leaked urea into the system. Is solenoid valve failure common in these types of systems? Typically should the urea injection control system indicate when there is a failure? What should be done to try to avoid failure in the urea injection system again? I appreciate your assistance.
