I have seen many people asking the same or similar question here. It took me by surprise how wrong many people are. I am not a car mechanic, so I will just keep it simple here. Let's say, we have a vehicle which has already been driven for 30mins or so, and the temperate gauge reaches at 90°c. The heat has already been generated by the engine. So now, we SWITCH ON the heater to try to get some heat (hot air) inside the vehicle. First of all, the heater is a device which REQUIRES electricity to operate, so as soon as it's switched on, it uses electricity. That is the first sign of fuel (electricity) being used. Secondly, the heater instucts an internal fan to run, so the hot air (heat) can be sucked in from the engine/radiator/heater core (whatever you want to call it) and BLOWN to the inside of the vehicle. The internal fan REQUIRES electricity to spin, so this is the second sign of fuel being used. Many people MIS-UNDERSTOOD the question. It is NOT asking if it takes more fuel to GENERATE THE HEAT to be used for the heater. But does it use more fuel to OPERATE (USE) the heater? The heat (hot air) doesn't come inside the vehicle automatically, so the heater as a control panel device directs hot air coming into the vehicle. And let me repeat once more that the heater REQUIRES electricity to operate. Electricity is equal to fuel. So as soon as the heater starts, extra fuel will be used automatically. And again, I am not asking how much or how little of fuel the heater uses. Even if the heater uses 1g of fuel to run, it means I am using 1g MORE of fuel on top of the driving. It is a common sense and it doesn't need a degree title to answer this question CORRECTLY. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you...
