Is there a grace period for NJ Vehicle Registration Renewal?

I was stopped by a Cop on April 2nd for a Registration that expired on 03/31/2013. Only two days after the expiration date. The day on 03/31/3013 was Sunday. Is there a Grace Period in NJ that I could contest the charge?
