Can ampiclox (med) treat gum infection?

For months my gum used to bleed whenever I brushed it even softly and for that I had been thinking to see a doctor. On the other hand just recently I had a mild fever for which doctor gave me Ampiclox. When I completed the course, I felt better and my gum bleeding also stopped suddenly!!! Why? was that because of the antibiotic? could the gum infection have caused fever? thank you! :)
